Poetry requires work, it required attention, and the right amount of thought and feeling applied to a great poem can make the difference between merely being impressed or curious, and being moved to tears. Let’s take the time to learn this language well enough to really fall in love with it.
In this intensive, three-week seminar we will explore and dissect the minutia of contemporary and modern poetry. From the craft of line, word, and syllable choice, to the complex movement of concepts through thought and action, we will take our time and dig deeply, paying these poems the attention they deserve, demand even.
It is not enough to write – to master the craft, you must become an expert reader
Poets discussed may include Terence Hayes, Kim Hyesoon, Richard Siken, Robert Frost, Mary Ruefle, Timothy Donnelly, and Theodore Roethke, among others.
This is not a workshop, but rather an intimate seminar in which we will dig into great works together.
